Windows NT 4.0 Server Upgrade Guide 131
COM+ SOAP
Service
The new COM+ SOAP service allows clients to access configured COM components
on a network server by using XML and SOAP. The COM+ SOAP service enables you
to easily deploy your COM+ applications across a network as XML Web services
while maintaining centralized control.
Low-memory
activation gates
With this release, Component Services automatically check memory before creating a
COM+ server object. If the percentage of virtual memory available to the application
falls below a fixed threshold, the activation fails before the object is created. By failing
these activations that would normally run, the low-memory activation gates feature
greatly enhances system reliability.
Pausing and
disabling
applications
Compared to earlier versions, COM+ applications are now more manageable. An
administrator can pause and resume COM+ server applications or disable and enable
COM+ library or server applications, or even individual configured components. Both
the pausing and disabling features prevent future activations without affecting existing
component instances.
Process
dumping
COM+ now provides a solution to the problems associated with troubleshooting
applications in a production environment. The new process dump feature enables a
system administrator to dump the entire state of a process without terminating it. In
this way, you can gather information about a problem without disturbing the running
processes.
For more information about COM+, see What's New in COM+ 1.5
in the COM+ Software
Development Kit Documentation on the MSDN Web site.
