2003 White Paper
Windows NT 4.0 Server Upgrade Guide 106
Important The Windows XP version of the DLC protocol is provided as is. The DLC protocol may not
work properly with Windows Server 2003, it has not been tested, and Microsoft does not support the
DLC protocol with Windows Server 2003.
An alternative is to find a third-party binary, such as one from IBM for DLC available from their
Web site.
Quality of Service and RSVP Signaling
RSVP signaling has been completely removed from Windows Server 2003. Windows Server 2003
also removes the QoS Admission Control Service (ACS) component.
ACS no longer exists on Windows Server 2003. The RSVP service still runs on the host as a
conduit between program and traffic-control components. However, no RSVP messages are
generated.
GQoS programs can mark packets without ACS policy approval. Note that traffic-control programs
can mark packets on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003. Earlier programs
that use the IP_TOS socket option can mark packets on Windows NT 4.0. Administrators must
manage these types of programs in their networks appropriately for their network and program
requirements.
Dial-in Support: IPX and AppleTalk
Neither IPX nor AppleTalk (ARAP) are supported for dialing into Windows Server 2003–based
computers.
Streams
Support for Streams, popular on the UNIX operating system and used for transport drivers, has
been removed from Windows Server 2003.
