Windows NT 4.0 Server Upgrade Guide 118

Applications After Upgrade
Most applications run under the new worker process isolation mode without additional changes.
However, the identity used by a process may need to be configured after you upgrade. If you
configure an application pool to run as a custom identity, make sure to add the identity of the
account to the new IIS_WPG group that is created when upgrading. IIS_WPG is a user group
provided by IIS 6.0. IIS_WPG group membership provides the minimum set of user rights and
permissions required to run an application. It provides a convenient way to use a specific user
account that would be a member of IIS_WPG for the worker process identity account without
having to manually assign the user rights and permissions to that account. In the cases where the
account is not in the IIS_WPG group and does not have the appropriate permissions, the worker
process will fail to start.
The following table lists some common configurations before the upgrade and possible
configurations after the upgrade.
