AI 400 SERIES SmartProbes
This section describes the current SmartProbes. The reader should consult the most recent Axon
Instruments price list to determine what probes are available.
Axon Instruments also provides users with application circuits and details about transducer
characteristics and use. Axon welcomes any interesting application that has not been discussed in this
manual.
Amplifier Probes
Table 2 compares the AI 400 voltage amplifiers and the direct connection to the CyberAmp. There is
no inherent ranking in this table. One should decide on the parameters that are most important for the
application and rank the probes accordingly. For example, if noise is the most important consideration
and cost is no object, the AI 402 would be the most suitable probe, followed by the AI 401.

Direct connection may be via the BNC input or the 15-pin D connector. To use the 15-pin connector, the user can supply a
male 15-pin D plug or purchase an AI 490 connector kit.

Multiply rms noise by about six to determine the peak-to-peak noise. See the flyer Voltage Amplifiers for Science and
Engineering for noise measurements at other bandwidths.

CMRR with 0 kΩ source imbalance is 100 dB at pre-filter gain = x10, 110 dB at pre-filter gain = x100.

In the automatic electrode test the electrode resistance can be measured by sending the appropriate command from the host
computer. The manual electrode test requires that the operator link the electrode to a special test jack provided on the probe.
The operator does not have to provide the test signal; this is provided by the test jack.
