5. Add the new server to the domain.

Because this is a new Windows Server 2003 Domain Controller joining a Windows 2000 Active

Directory, you must run “adprep” from a command prompt on the Schema Master to upgrade the

Active Directory schema. (By default, the Schema Master is the first domain controller installed in

the original environment.) Allow permissions to modify the Schema by first registering the Active

Directory Schema plug-in and adding the plug-in into a Microsoft Management Console (MMC).

The following figures show the process.

a. Execute regsvr32 schmmgmt.dll from a command prompt. See Figure 4.
