User load was simulated using the LoadSim standard Microsoft Messaging Benchmark (MMB2)

profile. Load testing was conducted during each mailbox move period. Testing included measuring

the effect of the move on the environment and, in particular, the response time for end user operations

during a migration. Load was again applied after each mailbox move to benchmark the new

Migration procedures

Setting up the environment

1. Install Windows 2003 (or current) and any appropriate operating system updates onto a new,

dedicated Exchange server.

2. Install and configure antivirus software.

3. Configure the new SAN, including all necessary storage and SAN infrastructure components,

according to the appropriate storage device installation guide:

4. If using the EVA3000 as the SAN storage device, perform DiskPar on the virtual disks to avoid

performance issues. See Figure 3. (This step is not necessary for the MSA1000.) Refer to “Windows
